DecisionPoint Corporation is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard IT Support Services contract. NNSY's mission is to safely return warships to the Fleet on time and within budget. The NNSY CIO (Code 109) provides comprehensive IT and telecom support that maintains Fleet readiness in logistics, maintenance, engineering, supply, legal, readiness reporting, emergency response, and more. The CIO installs, manages, and secures all shipyard networks and systems; approves IT purchases; and runs a Navy/DoD-compliant Information Assurance program. It supports approximatley 10,000 NMCI seats and leads cyberspace efficiency initiatives while managing SYLAN, SECNET, Mobile Workforce Enablement, NFPCICN, standalone systems, servers, wireless networks, circuits, applications, and devices.
This position is fully on-site.
Designs, deploys, and implements VMware infrastructure components, including ESXi hosts, vCenter Server, and associated management tools, maintaining virtualized environments that support high availability, resource optimization, and secure operations in both development and production settings.
Manages Microsoft Windows domain architecture, including Active Directory deployment, Group Policy configuration, and DNS/DHCP services, with a strong understanding of integration and interaction with VMware infrastructure.
Creates and administers virtual desktop environments (e.g., Horizon View), virtual machine templates, snapshots, and virtual networking to ensure system stability, scalability, and performance.
Configures and provisions storage systems (e.g., iSCSI, NFS, VMFS), and performs patch management, data backup, and disaster recovery planning in virtualized environments.
Performs capacity planning, system monitoring, and performance tuning to proactively identify and resolve infrastructure issues.
Follows formal change management processes and maintains comprehensive documentation in accordance with organizational standards.
Communicates effectively with stakeholders and supports the successful delivery of IT infrastructure projects and operational goals.
Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related discipline or Level II Certification (Security+ or higher).
Minimum of ten (10) years of experience designing, deploying, and implementing VMware infrastructure components.
In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows domain deployment, management, and configuration as it relates to VMware infrastructure and virtual desktop environment components.
VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or higher certification (VCP in Cloud Foundation preferred).
Microsoft Server certification and CompTIA Security+ certification desired.
