Overview

DecisionPoint seeks a Speech Writer to develop high-quality written materials—including speeches, talking points, event packets, briefing books, executive remarks, and speaker biographies—for a large federal and DoD-aligned mission environment. This role supports senior-level leadership communications and ensures messaging is accurate, compelling, audience-appropriate, and aligned with organizational priorities. 

The Speech Writer will collaborate closely with communications strategists, content teams, policy experts, and event staff to deliver polished, timely materials that strengthen leadership engagement and program visibility. 

This position is fully remote.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Speech Writer will: 

  • Draft speeches, talking points, and executive remarks for leadership across a range of mission-critical engagements. 
  • Prepare speaker biographies, event packets, and executive briefing materials. 
  • Support message alignment across events, communications products, and leadership priorities. 
  • Conduct research to inform scripts and speeches, incorporating policy context and mission themes. 
  • Collaborate with communications strategists to refine voice, tone, and narrative style. 
  • Develop clear, audience-appropriate content for conferences, webinars, ceremonies, and public-facing engagements. 
  • Ensure all materials are accurate, current, and reflect approved messaging frameworks. 
  • Adapt content for multiple formats including written remarks, video scripts, and panel materials. 
  • Work with event teams to understand agendas, run-of-show requirements, and logistical context for prepared remarks. 
  • Maintain a repository of approved remarks, bios, and messaging guidance. 

Qualifications

Clearance Requirement 

Candidate must possess a Tier 2 Moderate Risk Public Trust (from any federal agency) or an active Secret clearance or higher. 

 

Education (Required) 

BA in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field. 

 

Experience (Required) 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience writing speeches, talking points, or executive communications. 
  • Experience supporting leadership communications in government, nonprofit, corporate, or public affairs environments. 
  • Proven ability to write clearly, concisely, and in an executive voice. 

 

Technical Knowledge (Required) 

  • Strong research and synthesis skills for translating complex information into accessible narrative. 
  • Proficiency in document development, editorial workflows, and version control. 
  • Understanding of communications best practices and message discipline. 

Technical Knowledge (Preferred) 

  • Experience writing for federal or DoD leadership. 
  • Familiarity with event communications, briefing packet creation, or messaging frameworks. 

 

Skills 

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills. 
  • Ability to adapt tone, voice, and format for diverse audiences. 
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. 
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and produce rapid-turn content. 
  • Strong collaboration skills across communications, policy, and event teams.
