Overview

DecisionPoint seeks a Media Monitoring Analyst to conduct comprehensive weekly media scans, assess media coverage, track emerging narratives, and identify potential risks or misinformation affecting a large federal and DoD-aligned mission environment. This role analyzes media posture, synthesizes findings into executive-level insights, and recommends proactive or corrective communication actions. 

The Media Monitoring Analyst strengthens situational awareness across the organization by monitoring traditional and digital media, identifying trends, evaluating reputational indicators, and providing leadership with actionable intelligence to support timely communication decision-making. 

This position is fully remote.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Media Monitoring Analyst will: 

  • Conduct weekly media monitoring across traditional, digital, social, and community-based channels. 
  • Identify emerging risks, misinformation trends, inaccurate narratives, or reputation-impacting coverage. 
  • Develop executive-level summaries of media posture, sentiment, and story trajectories. 
  • Produce risk assessments and recommend proactive or corrective communication strategies. 
  • Track media themes, stakeholder perspectives, and opinion shifts relevant to mission priorities. 
  • Maintain dashboards or reports reflecting media sentiment, tone, and coverage trends. 
  • Monitor relevant influencers, advocacy groups, military community publications, and policy commentary. 
  • Collaborate with communications, policy, outreach, and stakeholder affairs teams to align insights. 
  • Ensure monitoring outputs adhere to accuracy, timeliness, and accessibility standards. 
  • Support crisis communication readiness through rapid media assessments when needed. 

Qualifications

Clearance Requirement 

Candidate must possess a Tier 2 Moderate Risk Public Trust (from any federal agency) or an active Secret clearance or higher. 

 

Education (Required) 

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Political Science, Behavioral Science, Public Affairs, or a related discipline. 

 

Experience (Required) 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in media monitoring, journalism, public affairs, or communication analysis. 
  • Experience analyzing media coverage, identifying misinformation, or assessing narrative trends. 
  • Experience developing executive-level summaries and communication recommendations. 
  • Experience monitoring both traditional and digital media ecosystems. 

 

Technical Knowledge (Required) 

  • Familiarity with media monitoring platforms, sentiment tools, and digital analytics. 
  • Understanding of media landscapes, public discourse patterns, and narrative analysis. 
  • Knowledge of communication risk assessment and reputational analysis methodologies. 

Technical Knowledge (Preferred) 

  • Experience supporting federal or DoD communication environments. 
  • Familiarity with crisis communication frameworks and rapid response processes. 

 

Certifications (Preferred) 

  • Media analytics or public affairs certifications 
  • ITIL v4 Foundation 
  • Project management or research-related certifications 

 

Skills 

  • Strong analytical and narrative interpretation skills. 
  • Excellent written communication abilities suitable for executive-level reporting. 
  • Ability to identify risks and recommend actionable communication strategies. 
  • High attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Ability to manage rapid-turnaround analysis in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Strong coordination and collaboration skills across mission teams.
