Overview

DecisionPoint seeks a Communications Strategist to support the execution of strategic communications plans within a large federal and DoD-aligned mission environment. This role contributes to the development of integrated communications campaigns, assists in shaping messaging approaches, and ensures day-to-day alignment across directorates, stakeholders, and outreach channels. 

The Communications Strategist plays a key role in producing mission-aligned content, supporting narrative development, and coordinating communications products that advance organizational priorities and stakeholder understanding. 

This position is fully remote.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Communications Strategist will: 

  • Support the development and execution of integrated communications strategies and campaigns. 
  • Coordinate day-to-day messaging activities across mission teams and communication channels. 
  • Develop clear, consistent communication materials including talking points, announcements, briefings, and digital content. 
  • Assist in aligning messages with leadership priorities, emerging initiatives, and policy direction. 
  • Maintain editorial calendars, content workflows, and communications governance processes. 
  • Conduct research to inform messaging, campaign recommendations, and stakeholder engagement strategies. 
  • Partner with UX, data, and IT teams on content alignment and digital communication needs. 
  • Support communications performance tracking, including metrics, sentiment insights, and campaign reporting. 
  • Ensure compliance with accessibility guidelines, federal communications standards, and established branding. 
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of communication tools, templates, SOPs, and best practices. 

Qualifications

Clearance Requirement 

Candidate must possess a Tier 2 Moderate Risk Public Trust (from any federal agency) or an active Secret clearance or higher. 

 

Education (Required) 

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Political Science, or a related field. 

 

Experience (Required) 

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in communications, strategic messaging, public affairs, or related fields. 
  • Experience supporting integrated communication campaigns and executing communication plans. 
  • Experience producing mission-aligned communications across digital and traditional channels. 
  • Experience supporting cross-functional collaboration with program, mission, or technical teams. 

 

Technical Knowledge (Required) 

  • Knowledge of communications strategy development, stakeholder messaging, and audience analysis. 
  • Familiarity with digital communications tools, editorial processes, and content governance. 
  • Understanding of accessibility requirements and federal communications guidance. 

Technical Knowledge (Preferred) 

  • Experience supporting communications in federal or DoD environments. 
  • Familiarity with analytics tools for evaluating communication effectiveness. 

 

Certifications (Preferred) 

  • Professional communications certifications (e.g., PRSA, IABC) 
  • ITIL v4 or project management certifications 

 

Skills 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, compelling messaging. 
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
