Overview

DecisionPoint seeks a Cloud Network Engineer to implement, maintain, and troubleshoot IL5 AWS GovCloud network infrastructure in support of a large federal and DoD-aligned mission environment. This role focuses on routing, DNS, VPN/Direct Connect, WAF management, load balancing, IAM policies tied to network controls, and Zero Trust-aligned network enforcement. 

The Cloud Network Engineer works closely with cloud network architects, platform engineers, cybersecurity teams, and application teams to deliver secure, resilient, high-performance cloud networking solutions across enterprise systems. 

This position is fully remote.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Cloud Network Engineer will: 

  • Implement and maintain cloud network configurations including VPCs, subnetting, routing, and segmentation. 
  • Configure Route 53 DNS zones, routing rules, failover, and internal/external resolution. 
  • Set up and maintain VPN and AWS Direct Connect connectivity for hybrid or multi-environment integration. 
  • Configure AWS WAF, load balancers (ALB/NLB), and firewall policies. 
  • Apply and manage IAM policies tied to network controls and Zero Trust access enforcement. 
  • Enforce Zero Trust network standards including micro-segmentation and east-west traffic control. 
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity, DNS issues, traffic routing failures, and access problems. 
  • Support network performance tuning, latency analysis, and throughput optimization. 
  • Maintain network diagrams, documentation, configuration baselines, and operational logs. 
  • Support monitoring, packet capture, and analytics for cloud traffic. 
  • Ensure network configurations align with RMF, STIGs, IL5 cloud security requirements, and Zero Trust guidance. 
  • Participate in Change Control Board (CCB) processes for network-related modifications. 

Qualifications

Clearance Requirement 

Must hold an active Top Secret clearance, supported by a Tier 5 background investigation. 

 

Education (Required) 

Bachelor’s degree in Networking, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. 

 

Experience (Required) 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in network engineering or cloud networking. 
  • Experience configuring routing, VPNs, Direct Connect, DNS, load balancers, and WAF in cloud environments. 
  • Experience troubleshooting AWS or hybrid network environments. 
  • Experience supporting secure federal or DoD network environments. 

 

Technical Knowledge (Required) 

  • Strong understanding of AWS GovCloud networking (VPC, NACLs, SGs, Route 53, Transit Gateway). 
  • Experience with VPN, Direct Connect, network encryption, and secure connectivity patterns. 
  • Experience implementing IAM-based network access controls. 
  • Familiarity with Zero Trust network segmentation and enforcement. 

Technical Knowledge (Preferred) 

  • Experience with network automation, IaC, or policy-as-code tools. 
  • Experience with cloud traffic monitoring tools and packet analysis. 
  • Familiarity with microservices or container-based network architectures. 

 

Certifications 

Required: 

  • CCNA or CCNP 
  • CompTIA Security+ 

Preferred: 

  • AWS Networking Specialty 
  • ITIL v4 Foundation 
  • Additional cloud networking certifications 

 

Skills 

  • Strong diagnostic and analytical skills for complex network troubleshooting. 
  • Excellent communication skills for coordination across engineering, operations, and security teams. 
  • High attention to detail and accurate documentation habits. 
  • Ability to implement secure, resilient cloud networking configurations. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced mission environments.
