Overview

DecisionPoint seeks Senior Back-End Developers to support enterprise application development for a large federal and DoD-aligned mission environment. These roles design and implement secure, scalable application logic, service layers, backend controllers, database integrations, and cross-system API interactions. 

Senior Back-End Developers play a critical role in building stable, resilient platform capabilities that align with mission needs, DoD cybersecurity requirements, and modern software engineering best practices. They collaborate closely with front-end developers, architects, cloud engineers, cybersecurity teams, and product managers to deliver quality releases within an Agile environment. 

These positions are fully remote.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Senior Back-End Developer will: 

  • Develop backend logic, services, controllers, and system integrations supporting enterprise applications. 
  • Build secure, efficient API endpoints, data-processing workflows, and backend automation. 
  • Implement robust database queries, stored procedures, and ORM-based data models. 
  • Optimize backend performance, scalability, and fault tolerance. 
  • Ensure backend code adheres to DoD cybersecurity and secure coding standards. 
  • Support API authentication, authorization, and identity integration patterns. 
  • Troubleshoot backend defects, environment-specific issues, and integration gaps. 
  • Participate in code reviews, technical design sessions, and architecture discussions. 
  • Collaborate with DevSecOps teams to support CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment readiness. 
  • Produce backend technical documentation, including service diagrams, API specifications, and integration notes. 
  • Mentor mid-level and junior developers on backend engineering best practices. 
  • Support Agile ceremonies including backlog refinement, sprint planning, and demos. 

Qualifications

Clearance Requirement 

Must hold an active Secret clearance, supported by a Tier 3 background investigation. 

 

Education (Required) 

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field. 

 

Experience (Required) 

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in backend software development or full-stack engineering with backend emphasis. 
  • Experience developing enterprise backend services, APIs, and integrations. 
  • Experience with database development, data modeling, and performance tuning. 
  • Experience developing secure software aligned with DoD, federal, or industry cybersecurity requirements. 
  • Experience supporting Agile development teams and iterative delivery cycles. 

 

Technical Knowledge (Required) 

  • Strong proficiency in backend languages (e.g., Java, Python, C#, Node.js, or similar). 
  • Experience designing REST APIs, service-oriented components, and backend controllers. 
  • Understanding of relational and/or NoSQL databases and integration patterns. 
  • Familiarity with secure coding practices and application-layer security. 
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps workflows. 

Technical Knowledge (Preferred) 

  • Experience with AWS GovCloud backend services or hybrid cloud integrations. 
  • Understanding of containerization, microservices, or serverless architectures. 
  • Experience with logging, monitoring, telemetry, and performance analytics. 

 

Certifications 

Required: 

  • CompTIA Security+ 

Preferred: 

  • ITIL v4 Foundation 
  • Cloud or backend framework certifications (AWS, Azure, Java, etc.) 

 

Skills 

  • Strong backend engineering and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to translate complex business needs into scalable backend solutions. 
  • Excellent communication skills for cross-team collaboration. 
  • Strong attention to detail and code quality. 
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced mission-driven environment.
