Overview

DecisionPoint seeks a Backup and Recovery Administrator to execute daily enterprise backup, restoration, and replication tasks across a large federal and DoD-aligned IT environment. This role ensures data protection, integrity, and recoverability across cloud and on-premises systems while supporting mission-critical continuity operations. 

The Backup and Recovery Administrator is responsible for validating job success, performing restores, monitoring backup infrastructure health, and troubleshooting operational issues. This role works closely with senior engineers, database teams, cloud architects, and cybersecurity personnel to ensure backup operations meet technical and security requirements. 

This position is fully remote.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Backup and Recovery Administrator will: 

  • Execute daily backup operations, job scheduling, verification, and monitoring tasks. 
  • Validate backup integrity through restore tests, checksum verification, and log reviews. 
  • Troubleshoot failed or incomplete backups, replication issues, and storage-related errors. 
  • Perform data restores for user, application, and system recovery requests. 
  • Monitor backup systems, replication queues, retention schedules, and storage utilization. 
  • Provide corrective actions and escalation details for recurring failures or anomalies. 
  • Maintain documentation of backup jobs, operational notes, restore procedures, and retention policies. 
  • Collaborate with senior DR and backup engineers on backup architecture enhancements. 
  • Coordinate with database administrators on consistent snapshots, log shipping, and recovery procedures. 
  • Participate in DR exercises, failover rehearsals, and readiness assessments. 
  • Ensure all backup and restoration activities comply with DoD data protection and IL5 requirements. 
  • Provide reporting on backup health, job success rates, and operational metrics. 

Qualifications

Clearance Requirement 

Must hold an active Top Secret clearance, supported by a Tier 5 background investigation. 

 

Education (Required) 

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Systems Administration, Computer Science, or a related field. 

 

Experience (Required) 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience performing enterprise backup, recovery, or systems administration functions. 
  • Experience executing and monitoring backup jobs across cloud or on-premises environments. 
  • Experience performing restores and validating backup integrity. 
  • Experience troubleshooting operational failures in backup and storage systems. 
  • Experience collaborating with engineering and database teams. 

 

Technical Knowledge (Required) 

  • Strong understanding of backup operations, retention schedules, replication, and restore workflows. 
  • Familiarity with backup tools, monitoring dashboards, and job scheduling systems. 
  • Understanding of storage systems, snapshots, and data protection mechanisms. 
  • Knowledge of DoD security requirements for data handling and backup operations. 

Technical Knowledge (Preferred) 

  • Experience working in IL5, federal, or DoD IT environments. 
  • Knowledge of DR testing and failover support processes. 
  • Experience with automation or scripting to support backup tasks. 

 

Certifications 

Required: 

  • CompTIA Security+ 

Preferred: 

  • ITIL v4 Foundation 
  • Backup vendor or cloud provider certifications 

 

Skills 

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and integrity. 
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills for resolving backup failures. 
  • Strong documentation skills for operational notes, runbooks, and restore procedures. 
  • Ability to manage daily workload in a fast-paced mission environment. 
  • Effective communication and coordination abilities across technical teams.
