Overview

DecisionPoint seeks Tier 3 Systems Engineers to provide advanced infrastructure and cloud hosting support within a large federal and DoD-aligned mission environment. Tier 3 Engineers serve as the highest-level escalation point for complex system failures, performance degradation, environment stability issues, and cross-platform troubleshooting. 

This role conducts deep-dive diagnostics, performs root cause analysis, coordinates patching cycles, supports cloud system integrity, and develops engineering-level remediation strategies. The Systems Engineer partners closely with cloud, cybersecurity, application, and network teams to ensure optimal system performance and reliability across environments. 

This position is fully remote.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Tier 3 Systems Engineer will: 

  • Serve as the top-tier escalation point for complex technical issues impacting cloud hosting, infrastructure, or system performance. 
  • Troubleshoot failures across distributed environments including production, test, and staging systems. 
  • Conduct deep log analysis and correlation across system, application, and infrastructure layers. 
  • Lead root cause analysis efforts for high-severity incidents and develop long-term corrective action plans. 
  • Coordinate OS, cloud, and platform-level patching cycles with engineering and cybersecurity teams. 
  • Support optimization of hosting environments for availability, performance, and resiliency. 
  • Diagnose network, compute, storage, and virtualization-related issues affecting system behavior. 
  • Validate system configurations, environment parity, and infrastructure-as-code deployments. 
  • Collaborate with DevSecOps to improve automation, monitoring, and telemetry capabilities. 
  • Update technical documentation, SOPs, and recovery procedures. 
  • Assist in compliance activities related to IL5 controls, logging requirements, and security baselines. 
  • Mentor Tier 1 and Tier 2 staff on advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic methodologies. 

Qualifications

Clearance Requirement 

Must hold an active Top Secret clearance, supported by a Tier 5 background investigation. 

 

Education (Required) 

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline. 

 

Experience (Required) 

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in systems engineering, systems administration, cloud hosting, or enterprise infrastructure support. 
  • Experience troubleshooting complex distributed systems, infrastructure components, and cloud-based environments. 
  • Experience performing root cause analysis and diagnosing multi-layer issues using logs and telemetry. 
  • Experience supporting patch cycles, configuration changes, and environment stability improvements. 
  • Experience collaborating with cybersecurity, cloud engineering, and DevSecOps teams. 

 

Technical Knowledge (Required) 

  • Strong understanding of cloud hosting architectures, server operating systems, and virtualization technologies. 
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools, log aggregation platforms, and telemetry dashboards. 
  • Knowledge of IL5 security requirements and secure system configuration practices. 
  • Understanding of network fundamentals, storage systems, load balancing, and system performance tuning. 

Technical Knowledge (Preferred) 

  • Experience with AWS or Azure cloud environments. 
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation. 
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation frameworks. 

 

Certifications 

Required: 

  • CompTIA Security+ 
  • ITIL v4 Foundation 

Preferred: 

  • AWS SysOps Administrator 
  • Microsoft Azure Administrator 
  • CompTIA CySA+ 

 

Skills 

  • Strong analytical and diagnostic capabilities for complex system issues. 
  • Excellent communication skills for translating technical findings to stakeholders. 
  • Ability to work under pressure during system outages or high-priority incidents. 
  • Strong attention to detail, documentation accuracy, and operational rigor. 
  • Ability to collaborate across multiple engineering and operations teams.
