Overview

DecisionPoint seeks a Configuration Engineer to support configuration baseline development, documentation, and integration with DevSecOps practices across a federal and DoD-aligned mission environment. This role manages configuration versioning, environment-level comparisons, code and artifact labeling, and technical coordination with CI/CD pipelines. 

The Configuration Engineer ensures configuration integrity across development, test, staging, and production environments by supporting baseline creation, documenting configuration changes, conducting environment diffs, and integrating configuration processes into automated deployment workflows. This role plays a key part in maintaining system traceability, reducing configuration drift, and supporting secure and repeatable deployment operations. 

This position is fully remote.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Configuration Engineer will: 

  • Assist in developing and maintaining configuration baselines for applications, services, and infrastructure. 
  • Document configuration details, attribute changes, and environment-specific differences. 
  • Support the creation and maintenance of version labels, release identifiers, and code promotion records. 
  • Conduct environment diffs to identify configuration drift or unexpected discrepancies. 
  • Integrate configuration processes with CI/CD pipelines to ensure accurate and automated baseline application. 
  • Collaborate with DevSecOps teams on configuration automation, deployment workflows, and environment consistency. 
  • Support release management by preparing configuration artifacts and verifying alignment before deployment. 
  • Coordinate with the CM Lead, Configuration Specialists, and system owners on configuration governance requirements. 
  • Validate configuration items (CIs) against expected baselines and update documentation as needed. 
  • Produce configuration documentation, change histories, technical diagrams, and environment mapping materials. 
  • Assist in configuration audits and support corrective actions related to configuration integrity. 
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to automate configuration controls. 

Qualifications

Clearance Requirement 

Must hold an active Top Secret clearance, supported by a Tier 5 background investigation. 

 

Education (Required) 

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline. 

 

Experience (Required) 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in configuration engineering, DevSecOps, software development support, or configuration management. 
  • Experience developing or managing configuration baselines, technical documentation, and version labeling. 
  • Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines or release workflows. 
  • Experience conducting environment comparisons or configuration integrity checks. 
  • Experience collaborating with development, DevSecOps, or operations teams on configuration changes. 

 

Technical Knowledge (Required) 

  • Understanding of configuration management principles, CI lifecycle processes, and baseline maintenance. 
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and code labeling/tagging practices. 
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools and DevSecOps integration patterns. 
  • Knowledge of environment configuration structures across development, test, staging, and production. 
  • Familiarity with ITIL v4 processes related to configuration and change management. 

Technical Knowledge (Preferred) 

  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code (IaC), automated configuration enforcement, or environment templating. 
  • Familiarity with configuration diff tools or automated configuration validation solutions. 
  • Experience with cloud configuration management (AWS preferred). 

 

Certifications 

Required: 

  • ITIL v4 Foundation 

Preferred: 

  • Additional DoD 8570/8140 certifications 
  • DevOps, cloud, or automation-related certifications 

 

Skills 

  • Strong analytical skills for identifying configuration issues or environment discrepancies. 
  • High attention to detail for maintaining accurate configuration documentation and baselines. 
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working across DevSecOps and engineering teams. 
  • Ability to troubleshoot configuration-related issues and support rapid resolution. 
  • Strong organizational skills for managing multiple configuration activities simultaneously.
