Overview

DecisionPoint seeks a Senior Configuration Management (CM) Lead to direct and mature enterprise configuration management operations supporting a federal and DoD-aligned mission environment. This role owns and maintains the Configuration Management Plan, establishes CM governance processes, oversees baselines, validates CMDB accuracy, and leads configuration audits across applications, infrastructure, cloud environments, and enterprise services. 

The Configuration Management Lead works closely with cybersecurity (including ISSM teams), Release Management, DevSecOps, engineering, and the PMO to ensure all configuration items (CIs) are tracked, controlled, and maintained in alignment with mission and compliance requirements. This role ensures configuration discipline across development, staging, and production environments, supporting system integrity, traceability, and audit readiness.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Configuration Management Lead will: 

  • Lead all CM activities across the enterprise, maintaining configuration control for applications, systems, cloud resources, and infrastructure. 
  • Own and update the Configuration Management Plan, ensuring compliance with DoD and federal CM standards. 
  • Define CM governance processes, workflows, and approval gates for configuration changes. 
  • Maintain oversight of the CMDB, ensuring CI attributes, relationships, and baselines remain accurate and current. 
  • Conduct configuration audits, verification activities, and CI reconciliation to validate alignment with operational reality. 
  • Coordinate closely with the ISSM and cybersecurity teams to ensure CIs align with security controls, RMF documentation, and audit requirements. 
  • Collaborate with the Release Manager on code promotion, baseline updates, and version control alignment. 
  • Work with DevSecOps teams to integrate CM processes into pipelines and automation workflows. 
  • Support change management activities, ensuring proper tracking, documentation, and CM impact analysis. 
  • Produce CM reports, dashboards, and baseline snapshots for government stakeholders. 
  • Maintain configuration documentation, diagrams, CI lifecycles, and CM-related SOPs. 
  • Guide risk mitigation efforts related to configuration drift, unauthorized changes, or inaccurate baselines. 
  • Lead CM-related training and awareness sessions to improve enterprise configuration discipline. 

Qualifications

Clearance Requirement 

Must hold an active Top Secret clearance, supported by a Tier 5 background investigation. 

 

Education (Required) 

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related technical discipline. 

 

Experience (Required) 

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in configuration management, IT operations, DevSecOps, or enterprise systems management. 
  • Experience leading enterprise CM programs or managing CM for large, distributed environments. 
  • Experience maintaining CMDB accuracy, CI baselines, and configuration documentation. 
  • Experience conducting CM audits, validation activities, or reconciliation efforts. 
  • Experience collaborating with cybersecurity, development, and release management teams. 

 

Technical Knowledge (Required) 

  • Strong understanding of configuration management principles, CI lifecycle management, and CMDB structures. 
  • Knowledge of ITIL v4 processes, especially CM, change management, and service configuration practices. 
  • Understanding of version control systems, code promotion workflows, and baseline alignment. 
  • Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity requirements, RMF documentation alignment, and audit readiness. 

Technical Knowledge (Preferred) 

  • Experience integrating CM with CI/CD pipelines or DevSecOps workflows. 
  • Familiarity with automated CM tools, asset discovery platforms, or infrastructure-as-code. 
  • Experience working with cloud-native CIs in AWS or hybrid environments. 

 

Certifications 

Required: 

  • ITIL v4 Foundation 

Preferred: 

  • Additional DoD 8570/8140 certifications 
  • Configuration Management–specific certifications (e.g., CMII, CMPIC) 
  • DevOps or cloud certifications 

 

Skills 

  • Strong leadership and organizational abilities to manage enterprise-wide CM programs. 
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working across engineering, cybersecurity, and PMO teams. 
  • High attention to detail for maintaining CM accuracy, documentation, and auditability. 
  • Strong analytical skills for identifying CM gaps, configuration drift, or CI inconsistencies. 
  • Ability to balance operational needs with CM rigor in a fast-paced mission environment.
