Overview

DecisionPoint seeks CMS Back End Developers to support enterprise-level Content Management System enhancements, custom development, and integration engineering within a large federal and DoD-aligned mission environment. These roles focus on building backend capabilities including custom modules, API endpoints, authentication flows, catalog integrations, and search logic while ensuring secure and scalable system performance. 

The CMS Back End Developer plays a critical role in supporting CMS modernization, enabling new platform capabilities, and ensuring reliable, secure, and high-performance backend functionality. 

These positions are fully remote.

Duties & Responsibilities

The CMS Back End Developer will: 

  • Develop custom CMS modules, backend logic, and system components supporting mission requirements. 
  • Build and maintain API endpoints, data connections, and service integrations used across CMS features. 
  • Implement product catalog connections, data models, and backend workflows. 
  • Design and configure search features, indexing logic, metadata handling, and retrieval performance tuning. 
  • Develop and support secure user authentication flows, identity integrations, and permission models. 
  • Ensure backend code adheres to DoD cybersecurity standards, secure coding practices, and vulnerability mitigation guidelines. 
  • Collaborate with front-end developers, architects, and infrastructure teams on cross-system integrations and feature development. 
  • Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, code reviews, and development ceremonies. 
  • Troubleshoot backend issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions. 
  • Write and maintain backend documentation, API specifications, and integration diagrams. 

Qualifications

Clearance Requirement 

Must hold an active Secret clearance, supported by a Tier 3 background investigation. 

Education (Required) 

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Development, or a related field. 

Experience (Required) 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in backend software development or CMS backend engineering. 
  • Experience developing custom modules, APIs, integrations, or service-layer components. 
  • Experience implementing secure coding practices aligned with DoD or federal cybersecurity standards. 
  • Experience troubleshooting backend functionality, integrations, and system interactions. 

Technical Knowledge (Required) 

  • Proficiency in server-side languages, CMS backend frameworks, and module development. 
  • Experience designing and implementing REST APIs, JSON data structures, and service integrations. 
  • Understanding of authentication mechanisms, identity integrations, and user management workflows. 
  • Familiarity with search engines, indexing strategies, metadata models, and retrieval optimization. 
  • Experience using version control, participating in code reviews, and following modern backend development practices. 

Technical Knowledge (Preferred) 

  • Experience with microservices, headless CMS, or decoupled architectures. 
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and DevSecOps tooling. 
  • Familiarity with cloud hosting environments or containerized deployment approaches. 

Certifications 

Required: 

  • CompTIA Security+ 

Preferred: 

  • Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or equivalent 
  • PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI ACP) 
  • Additional backend development or cloud certifications 

Skills 

  • Strong backend problem-solving abilities and analytical skills. 
  • Ability to develop scalable, secure, and maintainable backend systems. 
  • Clear communication skills for working with integrated technical teams. 
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to reliable backend performance. 
  • Ability to balance immediate development needs with long-term architectural considerations.
